Everyone walks in with a different body. The plan should match.

Some clients want to lift heavy again. Some want a knee that survives the stairs. Some just want to feel like themselves. All of those are the job.

Who I usually see

Three kinds of people make up most of my week. If you're one of them, you're in the right place.

Healthy ageing

Older adults who want to stay strong and independent

Strength, conditioning and wellbeing for people who have no intention of slowing down, building the muscle, balance and confidence that keep you doing the things you love. A real program built around your body, not a "seniors class".

Complex musculoskeletal

The problem nobody has found an answer for

The knee that hasn't felt right for months. Shoulder pain that keeps coming back. The wrist from work that never fully healed, or the back that's outlasted your surgeon, your physio, maybe another EP. My job is finding what's actually driving it, then fixing it at the source.

Complex & persistent injuries →
Mental health

Anxiety, depression and PTSD, treated with movement

I'm one of the few EPs in Canberra whose caseload includes mental health. Exercise is one of the best-evidenced tools we have for it, and sessions start wherever you're comfortable, that can be a quiet gym, or just a walk.

What I treat

A working list, not the whole one. Every condition here has its own page, what's going on, what the evidence says, and how I approach it.

Not sure where you fit? Call me on 0418 153 608, five minutes on the phone will sort it out.

Two disciplines, one plan

Most funded clients pay nothing out of pocket. Each stream has its own page, what's covered, what I need from you, and how the paperwork gets handled (by me, mostly).

What it actually costs

No hidden fees, no phone call required. Here's the maths nobody else will show you.

James Murphy, Accredited Exercise Physiologist and remedial massage therapist
The PractitionerFig. 2 · Consult room, Griffith

“As much as I'd love to get you in the gym and lifting, we don't have to start there.

Everyone's needs are different, and I promise to meet yours in whatever capacity works. For some clients that's a barbell. For others it's a walk on a sunny day, or kicking a ball around the oval. The support exists to help you reach your goals, not mine.

You'll get one practitioner who does the releasing and the strengthening, explains everything in plain English, and tells you honestly when you don't need me anymore.

“James helped my chronic back and hip injury more in one month than three years of physios and osteos did.”
Aisling V. · Google review
“He takes the time to actually understand what's driving the problem — not just treat the symptoms. The result is real progress, not an endless cycle of recurring appointments.”
James M. · Google review
“James has treated me for a broken ankle followed by a total knee replacement… His ability to discern the real problem and deliver immediate relief and long-term lasting results is to his credit.”
