Remedial massage and exercise physiology, from the same set of hands.
I'm one of the only clinicians in Canberra who is both an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and a remedial massage therapist. That combination isn't a gimmick, it's how musculoskeletal problems actually get solved.
Why the combination works.
Hands-on treatment changes how tissue feels today. Strength work changes what it can tolerate next month. Either one alone is half a solution: massage without loading keeps you coming back forever; loading without treatment can be a grind through symptoms that hands-on work would settle in minutes.
When one clinician does both, the massage findings feed straight into the exercise plan and vice versa. The tight calf I find on the table becomes the loading priority on the floor. There's no referral letter, no second waiting room, no version of your story lost in translation.
What it looks like in practice.
- The locked neck before a big week, hands-on treatment now, then two exercises so it stops recurring every month.
- The post-surgical knee, massage to settle the guarded quad, strength work to rebuild what surgery couldn't.
- The desk-worker's back, release what's overworking, strengthen what's under-working, adjust the week that caused it.
Sessions can be massage, exercise, or a deliberate mix, and the plan says which, and why, and for how long.
In their words.
“Double bonus: James is also able to treat injuries with soft tissue massage! He clearly explains what he is doing and why.”

Common questions.
Why does one practitioner for both matter?
The muscle that gets released is the muscle that gets strengthened, same clinician, same plan, nothing lost between clinics.
Can I claim massage on my health fund?
Yes, rebates are processed on the spot via HICAPS. Massage is $79 / $99 / $129 for 30 / 45 / 60 minutes.
Do I have to do both?
No, plenty of clients come for one or the other. The advantage is the other is one conversation away when you need it.
