Clinical massage

Remedial massage at Fitness & Wellbeing Physiology.

Remedial massage at Fitness & Wellbeing Physiology is clinical, it's not a relaxation service. James uses it as a targeted therapeutic tool for soft tissue dysfunction, myofascial tension, and chronic pain, integrated with exercise physiology where appropriate.

As both an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and Remedial Massage Therapist, James can combine both modalities in an integrated session, addressing the soft tissue component of an injury while also progressing the underlying exercise rehabilitation program.

Why my massage is different.

Most massage clinics offer you a menu of pressures. I offer you a clinical brain attached to the hands. I am an Accredited Exercise Physiologist as well as a remedial massage therapist, which means every massage here starts from an actual working theory of why your neck, back or shoulder feels the way it does, and the treatment targets that reason rather than rubbing the area and hoping.

It also means the massage table is connected to something bigger. If your recurring tension traces back to a weak shoulder, a desk setup or a training error, I can tell you, show you, and fix the cause, because the massage therapist and the exercise physiologist are the same person in the same room. No referral to someone across town. No re explaining your body from scratch.

What a session looks like.

We talk first, briefly and usefully: what is sore, what you have tried, what your week does to your body. Then focused hands on treatment, deep and specific where it needs to be, never pressure for pressure's sake. You leave with the work done and, where it helps, one or two things worth changing so the problem stops regenerating.

Clients tell me the difference is that the sore spot I find is the one they meant, and that the relief lasts longer than they are used to. That is not magic. It is treating the cause with clinical reasoning behind every stroke.

Honest, transparent, local.

Most private health extras policies cover remedial massage from an MMA-accredited therapist. James is MMA-accredited, HICAPS rebates are processed on-the-spot at the end of your session. Check your specific policy for the rebate amount.
Yes. As an MMA-accredited allied health professional, James can provide remedial massage as a Therapeutic Support under NDIS (support item 15_037_0128_1_3, CB Daily Activity). This applies to self-managed and plan-managed participants only.
Clinical remedial massage targets specific soft tissue dysfunction, scar tissue, myofascial trigger points, muscle imbalances, and pain. It's outcome-focused rather than relaxation-focused, and is prescribed as part of a treatment plan. James uses it as a therapeutic tool, often alongside exercise physiology.
