Experience where it counts: I have completed contracted functional capacity assessments for Australian Government departments and Defence workers. A Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is a comprehensive, standardised assessment of a person's ability to perform physical work tasks, activities of daily living, or functional demands relevant to their claim or plan. It is conducted by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and produces a written report used in claims management and planning decisions.

Why my assessments hold up.

A functional capacity assessment is only as good as the scrutiny it can survive. Mine are built for that scrutiny: standardised, repeatable testing, effort consistency checks, and reports written in the language insurers, employers and legal readers actually use, with conclusions the data supports and nothing the data does not.

I have delivered assessment and rehabilitation work inside government and Defence contract environments, where documentation standards are unforgiving, and I bring that discipline to every referral. Assessors who overstate capacity create disputes. Assessors who understate it create dependency. The value is in getting it right, and being able to show your reasoning.

What referrers get.

  • Clear scheduling, assessments accommodated within days, not weeks
  • Standardised batteries matched to the referral question
  • Reports delivered on the agreed deadline, every time
  • Direct phone access to the assessor, me, for clarifications

For insurers, rehabilitation providers and employers needing ACT coverage, I am a single call and a fast turnaround. For workers, you get an honest, respectful assessment where nothing about your situation is prejudged.

Yes. FCAs conducted at Fitness & Wellbeing Physiology are independent assessments, James is not the treating therapist. The report reflects objective findings only.
Relevant medical records, imaging reports, previous treatment records, and any insurer-provided referral documentation. James will advise on specific requirements when the appointment is booked.
Yes. If the FCA identifies a need for ongoing exercise physiology rehabilitation, James can provide this as a separate treating role. A clear separation is maintained between treating and independent assessor functions.
