Our approach

Psychosocial Disability (NDIS).

Psychosocial disability, disability arising from mental health conditions, qualifies for NDIS Capacity Building funding. Exercise physiology and remedial massage both sit within supported therapeutic supports for eligible participants. James provides detailed progress reports and plan-review FCAs tailored to psychosocial goals.

What the evidence says.

For people living with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression and other psychosocial disability, exercise is not a luxury add on. It treats the symptoms, and it also treats the thing that shortens lives in this population: cardiometabolic disease, driven partly by medication side effects. Structured exercise improves negative symptoms, cognition, sleep and physical health markers, and the earlier it starts, the better it holds.

How I treat it.

Capacity building here means exactly what it says. We start wherever works: a quiet gym with just us in it, a walk, kicking a ball on the oval. Nothing about the session should cost more emotional energy than it returns. Consistency beats intensity, and small wins are engineered deliberately, because momentum is the treatment.

I work with support coordinators, psychologists and psychiatrists, write NDIS ready reports linked to plan goals, and structure supports so participants gradually need me less. Self managed and plan managed participants are both welcome.

What we aim for.

  • Regular activity that actually happens, week after week
  • Physical health markers protected against medication side effects
  • Energy, sleep and confidence trending up
  • Progress documented in language plan reviews understand
