Pre-diabetes & Metabolic Syndrome.
Pre-diabetes and metabolic syndrome are ideal intervention points, structured exercise can prevent or significantly delay progression to T2DM and cardiovascular disease. Medicare CDM plans often cover these presentations. James builds prevention-focused programs with clear metabolic targets.
What the evidence says.
Prediabetes is the best warning shot medicine ever fires: landmark prevention trials show that structured lifestyle programs, exercise plus modest weight loss, cut progression to type 2 diabetes by around 58 percent, outperforming medication. The window is real but it closes. Metabolic syndrome, the cluster of high waist, blood pressure, triglycerides, low HDL and rising glucose, responds to exactly the same intervention.
How I treat it.
This is the population where I get to play prevention instead of catch up, and it is some of the most satisfying work I do. We combine progressive strength training with aerobic work at a dose that shifts insulin sensitivity, track waist measurement, blood pressure and your pathology results over time, and build the whole thing around your actual week rather than a fantasy schedule.
Your GP can fund part of this with a Medicare care plan, and the reporting loop I keep with them means your next blood test tells all of us whether it is working. It usually is.
What we aim for.
- Glucose and HbA1c trending down, confirmed by pathology
- Centimetres off the waist, the measurement that predicts most
- Blood pressure and lipids improving alongside
- Diabetes prevented, not just postponed
